Dr. Henning Struchtrup is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria, in Victoria, BC, Canada. Before joining the University of Victoria in 2001, he obtained Diploma and PhD in Engineering Physics from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany, and had postdoc positions in Berlin, at the University of Catania, Italy, and at the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications in Minneapolis. Prof. Struchtrup’s research concentrates on non-equilibrium thermodynamics and the kinetic theory of gases. Central themes of his research are the extension and better understanding of Grad’s moment method, and the development of suitable non-equilibrium boundary conditions. Apart of journal publications on these and a wider range of topics in non-equilibrium thermodynamics, he authored a monography on the moment method (Springer 2007) and a textbook on technical thermodynamics (Springer 2014). He is a member of the RGD International Advisory Committee since 2010, and gave the Harold Grad Lecture at RGD31 in Glasgow.
